National Service Scheme (NSS)
Vision
National Service Scheme (NSS), vision is to build the youth with
the mind and spirit to serve society and work for the social uplift of the
downtrodden masses of our nation as a movement.
Mission
The National Service Scheme
has the motto “NOT ME BUT
YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in the service of the people.
Hence NSS aims to Education Through Community Service and Community Service
Through Education.
Objectives
The main objectives of the
National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
1.
To understand
the community in their work.
2.
To understand
themselves in relation to their community.
3.
Identify the
needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
4.
To develop a
sense of social and civic responsibility.
5.
To utilize
their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community
problems.
6.
To develop
the competence required for group – living and sharing of responsibilities.
7.
Gain skills
in mobilizing community participation.
8.
Acquire
leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
9.
Develop
capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
10. Practice national integration and social harmony.
Symbol
The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of
the world-famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa,
India. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation, and release and
signifies the movement in life across time and space. The symbol thus stands
for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for
social change.
Badge
Government College Meham has two NSS units both for girls and
boys. The NSS volunteers have been playing a pivotal role from the last decade
in our college. The NSS is a two-year program in which the volunteer actively
participates in one-day camps, rallies on various events, visit old age homes,
cleanliness drive, environment campaign, etc. NSS inculcate service to mankind,
discipline, unity, and comradeship in their volunteers.
